We’re often asked if there’s a minimum amount of medical bills that are necessary to file a lawsuit in Wyoming. There isn’t a minimum number of dollars for medical bills. Often, you can have a very serious injury without many medical bills, and you need to take that into account. In 2003, we tried a case with $10,000 in medical bills in federal court. It was the first medical malpractice case won in Wyoming in 25 years in federal court, and we had a million dollar verdict with only $10,000 in medical bills. The medical bills are not the controlling factor in the case, and oftentimes we don’t even claim the medical bills because they anchor your damages low. Medical bills are really not as important as other factors in determining a lawsuit.
